Tradition dictates that it should be the man who should buy the wedding ring. However, buying the right wedding ring for his bride may be a bit of a challenge as men are not as meticulous and as patient when it comes to the art of shopping. This can lead to a situation where a man could buy a certain type of ring that cost twice as much because he did not bother to look in the store next door, which sells it for half the price. To avoid this, it would be a better idea for the couple to go shopping for a wedding ring together. This is because apart from the benefit that a man is assured that the his bride would like the ring that they would buy, the act of shopping together would make the canvassing process more enjoyable, which can help in purchasing a ring that fits their budget.

In picking out the type of metal used, a popular choice is gold. However, platinum might be the more practical choice. Although platinum is more expensive than gold, platinum is more tough and more durable than gold, which makes it a more worthwhile investment. To save on platinum rings, couples could choose a simple design, which does not necessarily mean that it is less valuable because simple designs are generally regarded as classy, and the value of platinum more than makes up for the lack of adornment.

The wedding ring plays an important part not only in the wedding ceremony but also in the couple's married life. However, buying the perfect wedding ring does not mean buying the most expensive one, as there are "money-saving" steps that couples can take in buying the right wedding ring, even if it is made out of platinum.
